About Games. by Shihiko°

July 2nd, 2010

Throughout life there have been many chances to look at and play different games. Some leave a prominent impression while others you forget the name or the experience you had while playing them. As we continue to move into the future the different games and gaming experiences will change and some games which you used to play aren’t the same as how you remember it any more. But what we can take with us into future games is to remember how good the game play/system of that game was…

Everyone has their own list of games that inspire them and make them feel good… One thing to do as a Game Designer is to play and experience as many different games whenever possible and compile a list for reference of the games that made an impression and why. Since not all games are the same, it is not a good idea to base them all on the same categories… Example, I might really enjoy one game for it’s game play but it’s game system wasn’t so great… while on the other hand another game visually immerses me into the game, but the music turned me off putting in the time to play it… etc.

Key point is that you would want more inspiring games listed in the game play & system category as they are games you look at for understanding why a game is fun. Again everyone has their own list because different genres of games are fun to different people… so having a variety of genres in the list helps for when being creative. Game play is what defines the genres of the game because it is how you are controlling or taking part in the game, but the Game system is how the game operates with you in control.

This is my list…

[Incomplete with no specific order... some I haven't put in either because I am not sure which category they fit in yet or I don't remember the game well enough to categorise them. There probably isn't that many PC games in  my list.]:

Much to think about… I’ll come back to this list later. It is good practice to create a list so you don’t need to try to remember them later. :)
